12 Hour Scarefest

About Scarefest

A giant coward plays scary games on purpose, once a year, so kids don't have to fight cancer alone.

The idea

12 Hour Scarefest is a single-day charity stream, noon – midnight, mountain time, live on twitch.tv/adge85. I’m a giant coward. I play scary games anyway, for twelve hours straight, because it’s a genuinely fun way to raise money for kids who need it a lot more than my nerves do.

Why St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. It freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every family is treated without ever receiving a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food, because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. St. Jude has helped push childhood cancer survival rates from around 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago, and every dollar raised here goes straight to that mission.

Donation incentives

Donations don’t just fund research: they also make the stream worse for me, in the best way.

$10 – $24

A creaky-door jumpscare sound plays on stream.

$10 donors also get a card featuring artwork from a St. Jude patient.

$25 – $49

A random, sudden, loud scream plays on stream.

Every donation in this range triggers one, except exactly $40. How mysterious.

$40

A mystery notification. This is something special.

$50 – $99

The terrifying demon horse notification, plus your choice of a hot sauce wheel spin or a 30-second dance party.

Demon horse triggers on every donation of $50 or more, no matter how high it climbs. The hot sauce wheel and dance party choice are exclusive to this tier.

$100+

Five minutes of dinosaur hands.

Also triggers the demon horse notification.

Karaoke roulette

For $10, you can throw a song into the karaoke poll. Here’s how a round works:

  1. The first 4 requested songs go into a poll on the Tiltify campaign.
  2. The poll stays open for 2 hours: whichever song raises the most money in that window wins.
  3. I sing the winner, live, right when the poll closes.
  4. Submissions reopen, and the whole thing starts over.

Songs that lose a poll are out for good: no resubmitting them into a later round. I’ll only sing 3 songs total across the whole stream, and nothing longer than 4 minutes.

Fundraising milestones

These unlock based on how much we’ve raised in total this event, not any single donation.
